How Shakespeare helped with Coding?


I first got introduced to Shakespeare’s works back in Eighth Grade and I had no idea what was going on. The book was written in English, but it did not sound like English. The wording and the structure was foreign to me. I struggled for the first month trying to dissect and comprehend Julius Caesar, but to little avail. It wasn’t until about two months into the book that I realized that I understood basic parts of the book! As I read more and more, the stories got easier and easier.

How did Shakespeare help with my computer coding?


In short, both Shakespeare and computer coding are difficult in the beginning and become easier as one progresses. I learned a valuable skill of staying committed when learning something new. For instance, I began learning computer programming this year in my AP Computer Science class and I felt exactly the same way as when I started Shakespeare. All the different components of the language seemed foreign to me and I didn’t understand a single thing. However, over time, I became adjusted to the new language and it got easier!

It delights me to know that things become easier and easier over time. That one can become good at two, almost totally different things, over a certain period of time. I just stayed committed to learning the new skill and executed it. From understanding Shakespeare to coding, anything can be accomplished if time and effort is placed into it.

  1. Great article Chad! I love how you related computer programming to Shakespeare, two topics so diverse! I also disliked reading Shakespeare’s work in 9th grade with Mrs. Gilbert… like you, I can unite my struggle of reading Shakespeare’s work with my class that is Calculus, a concept I continually struggle to grasp. Keep up the great work!
