Discovery News posts the newest scientific topics everyday. Just last week, DNews posted a video titled, “Can a Chicken Really Live Without A Head?”
This video sparked many questions that I would love to have answered:
- On average, how long does a chicken live without its head?
- How many cases in history has a decapitated chicken lived?
- How many and what species of animals can survive without their head?
But the real question I would like to ask is: Does an animal really live if it is missing its brain?
The question I am asking is if an animal loses its conscious mind and just moves based on bodily function, is the animal still “alive”. And what determines whether something is really alive?
